dtctl is an open-source, kubectl-inspired CLI for the Dynatrace platform designed to work equally well for human engineers and AI agents. It provides a single interface for managing workflows, dashboards, queries, SLOs, and settings via a simple verb-noun syntax. Unlike MCP, which adds schema negotiation overhead, dtctl cuts straight to execution — making it well-suited for tight iteration loops and agentic workflows. AI agents can discover available commands at runtime, receive structured output automatically, and close the full loop: discover data, make changes, verify results, and fix errors autonomously. The tool supports multi-environment context switching, CI/CD integration for dashboards, and works with coding agents like GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, and Cursor. It is fully open source at dynatrace-oss/dtctl on GitHub.
