DR-DOS 9.0 is being rebuilt from scratch by Whitehorn Ltd. Co., which acquired the DR-DOS trademark in 2022. The developer, known as CheeseWeezel on Reddit, claims a clean-room reimplementation with no legacy code from FreeDOS, EDR-DOS, or Caldera — written entirely in assembly (NASM) targeting 386 processors. Six preliminary releases exist, with classic DOS games like DOOM and Warcraft reportedly working. Unlike SvarDOS (which uses the old Caldera-released kernel), this project prioritizes legal clarity and trademark continuity. However, it is currently proprietary and only distributed as binaries. The Register notes the version numbering as misleading, suggesting it's more like v0.9 of a new product than a true successor to DR-DOS 8.
