I always shied away from using GraphQL until I started doing work in e-commerce through Shopify. Using a graphQL API is awesome! I can’t believe how useful it is, and how much performance benefit you can get from just getting the exact data you need. It is so wild how underrated it is. I think every dev needs to try GraphQL at least once.

Only those who haven’t used it don’t like it😅

I tried a few packages in PHP, but all the ones I tested were very slow and unusable :( However, I like it in Java.

GraphQL is an awesome tool for webapps with complex user interactions and representations, as an API gateway on one hand or handling multiple sources on the other. For everything else rest would do just fine and adding another framework and one more layer of distribution tax is a waste of time and resources.
