Don't be a toddle developer

Don't define yourself by the technology or tool you use.

Tools and frameworks come and go, and the web remains.

I’ll use the example you mentioned, react and vue.
If you work in a company that requires both at the same time, I’m sorry, but you’re going to explode. Keeping up to date with just one of the options is already complicated, imagine 2.
If you don’t work on both at the same time, one of them you will forget how to work with and become outdated.
I don’t see any problems with someone defining themselves as a developer of something specific, the important thing is that you follow the market and know when you need to update yourself and move on to newer technology. But don’t try to swallow everything at the same time, this will only overwhelm you.

I think he’s absolutely right. I also (like the author of the article) learned web development over 20 years ago. At the end of the day, I often don’t understand why an application needs to be programmed in React, Vue or other frameworks when the same goal can also be achieved with standard technologies. And that, in my opinion, is exactly the problem. We as developers let ourselves be made into something! We define ourselves by the technology we use. It is much more worthwhile to deal with the basic technology than to jump straight into special technologies like Angualr, React etc. Because once you understand the basics, the rest is just an addition. And in my opinion that’s exactly what the author means at the end: Be a web developer or app developer, but don’t be a React or Vue developer.

Definitely agree with the author that you shouldn’t define yourself as a developer by the tool or technology you use. One of the things I love about this job is that it’s constantly evolving and changing.
As a relatively new developer, I’m excited to see what it will all look like when I’ve spent 20 years developing…
