<p>Docker has launched Docker Offload as a generally available service. The short version: it moves the Docker container engine out of your local machine and into Docker’s cloud infrastructure, which means developers stuck on VDI platforms, locked-down laptops, or policy-restricted networks can finally use Docker Desktop without fighting IT.</p>
<h2>What it actually does</h2>
<p>The engine moves to the cloud. Everything else stays the same — your CLI commands, Docker Desktop UI, bind mounts, port forwarding, Docker Compose. You don’t need to relearn anything or change your workflow. The shift is purely in where the engine runs.</p>
<p>Sessions run in isolated, temporary environments over encrypted tunnels on SOC 2 certified infrastructure. Nothing persists between sessions, and there’s centralized audit logging.</p>
<h2>Deployment options</h2>
<p>Two tiers are available:</p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Multi-tenant</strong> — the default for most enterprise teams</li>
<li><strong>Single-tenant</strong> — a dedicated VPC for regulated industries like finance, healthcare, and government</li>
</ul>
<p>Both integrate with existing IAM, SSO, and access control policies. No infrastructure changes required on your end.</p>
<p>Docker Offload is an add-on to Docker Business.</p>
<h2>What’s coming</h2>
<p>Docker has flagged a few things on the roadmap: BYOC (bring your own cloud) support, CI/CD integration with GitHub Actions and GitLab CI, and GPU-backed instances for AI/ML workloads.</p>

<p>Docker Offload: For when your company’s security policy is so tight you have to rent a computer in the cloud just to run a container locally. Great for the VDI crowd, but it’s essentially an expensive workaround for a culture/policy problem.</p>
