The Linux Foundation has introduced DNS-AID, a proposed DNS extension that enables AI agents and MCP servers to discover, verify, and communicate with one another using existing DNS infrastructure. Rather than relying on proprietary agent registries, DNS-AID would allow domain owners to publish a standardized well-known address (_index._agents.{domain}) as a vendor-neutral, globally scalable directory. Initially developed by Infoblox with contributions from Deutsche Telekom and Amazon, the project is now open for community contributions via the Linux Foundation.
