A developer built a Discord bot that runs on 9front (Plan 9) to allow chatting on Discord from within the Plan 9 environment. The project consists of shell scripts and a Go program, where the Go program handles Discord communication and scripts manage sending/receiving on channels. Messages are logged to a file tree, and the setup integrates with the acme text editor. The server component can run on a remote always-on machine, with the client accessing it locally via rimport for seamless remote usage.

<p>This is a great idea. I’ve seen a few YouTube channels where people try to use modern Discord on old machines, and this seems like a similar concept. Also, I think there’s a demand for communication clients that aren’t dominated by those notification sounds.</p>
