Digg, the rebooted link-sharing site co-acquired by Kevin Rose and Alexis Ohanian, has laid off a significant portion of its staff and pulled its app from the App Store. CEO Justin Mezzell cited an overwhelming bot problem as a key factor, noting that sophisticated AI agents and SEO spammers flooded the platform almost immediately after launch, undermining the vote-based ranking system. Rose will now return to work on Digg full-time while a small team continues to rebuild the product. The company also acknowledged that competing with established rivals like Reddit proved extremely difficult.
