First off, what do you think those GUI diagram tools store their data as?
The fact that someone wrote code to convert text into a diagram I think is an awesome achievement and they should be proud. For those who criticised, shame on you. Go and write a better app and then say the authors efforts are wasted.
I think as a user you can choose your toolkit, but don’t belittle someone’s hard work just because it doesn’t work for you.
I applaud you author and your effort, as I ise Mermaid daily, a tool that takes text and produces diagrams and the data files are smaller than Visio equivalents, they can be controlled through source code, showing who amended what and they are really fast to create.

Its a nice idea, but simple chart app will be easier and faster in my opinion. :D
