Yea, that is exactly, EXACTLY what DevOps means though…

Platform Engineering is “The discipline of designing and building toolchains and workflows that enable self-service capabilities for software engineering organizations in the cloud native era…”
In other words, Platform Engineering is just…DevOps. With a different name.

there’s certainly a difference between DevOps and Platform Engineering. but, this article is a little light on the details and lacks concrete examples of platforms that obviate DevOps:

Platform Engineering strives for the same thing as DevOps, but the difference is that Platform Engineering achieves this through modern, domain-specific PaaS solutions, rather than an assortment of bare toolchains and best practices (as with DevOps).
with Platform Engineering, much of the development operations, IT operations, CI/CD, A/B testing, and all sorts of best practices are built directly into the PaaS and automated by the PaaS.
DevOps is a general set of best practices that can be implemented in various ways. Platform Engineering absorbs DevOps into the hosting platform so that the PaaS becomes supercharged to facilitate DevOps without having to leave the platform.

Would be really beneficial if people actually read a book like The DevOps Handbook, instead of just Twitter and Reddit, to understand what that concept means before writing stuff like this. DevOps was always about collaboration between development and operations. It was never about having developers do ops, or ops do development. That’s just the natural evolution that the cloud brought to our jobs along with an additional layer of complexity.
