The AI hype cycle is normalizing as companies struggle to achieve expected ROI from AI investments. The job market for developers, particularly juniors, is returning to pre-COVID levels after an artificial boom period. While AI tools remain valuable for development, they require proper prompt engineering and edge case management to be effective. Recent changes to GPT models highlight the brittleness of AI development and the importance of maintaining backward compatibility in software systems.

Developers Rejoice! The Ai Bubble is Bursting!

I am certainly not in joy. It’s never good for the economy.
I believe the issue with ROI improvement using AI is with people unable to fully utilize it or simply refuse for their own (petty) reasons.
There is MUCH more RIO which is untapped and each person should strive to use AI more and more and open their minds to which tasks could be moved from manual labor to AI.
Managers are also at-fault as many do not use AI much themselves and serve as bad example for their teams, while also not pushing AI to the agenda while just hoping developers will start using it naturally without a “push”.
Whoever needs a push in my mind is already not “in the game” and might find themselves jobless in a few years when AI really takes hold in every aspect of software development while those who refused to use it all this time will be washed away as low-performers due to their inability to produce high-quality work as fast

Nope. It’s here and it’s not going anywhere.
Wet dreams about AI bubble burst and everything get back to pre-2017 state are only stains on the bed sheets.
We’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg and it already blown-up industries.
