Godot 4.7 has reached its first beta milestone with 1265 fixes from 309 contributors since 4.6-stable. Key highlights include full HDR output support across Windows, macOS, Linux, and BSD; Vulkan raytracing groundwork; nearest-neighbor 3D viewport scaling for pixel-art games; rectangular area light sources (AreaLight3D); a new DrawableTexture API; and inline shader previews in the text editor. Editor improvements are extensive: 3D vertex snapping, Path3D collider snapping, a new Scene Paint tool for 2D, revamped asset store UI, MeshLibrary bottom editor, monospaced fonts for code symbols, and selective export template downloads. Physics gains configurable one-way collision directions for CollisionShape2D. Input adds a built-in VirtualJoystick node for touchscreens. Android gets picture-in-picture support and portrait mode in the script editor. Several breaking changes are noted, including Jolt Physics SoftBody3D defaults and particle angular velocity fixes.
