Bungie has announced that Destiny 2's active live-service development will end with the Monument of Triumph update on June 9, 2026. The studio cited the conclusion of the game's story arc with The Final Shape expansion as the turning point, and noted plans to keep the game playable in a maintenance state. The announcement follows Sony's acknowledgment that Destiny 2 underperformed after its $3.6 billion acquisition of Bungie in 2022, and a 17% workforce reduction at the studio. Bungie's newest title, Marathon, launched in March and is currently receiving positive reviews.
