A new embedded controller (EC) Linux driver has been posted to the kernel mailing list for the Dell XPS 13 9345 (Snapdragon X1 Elite). Developed by Aleksandrs Vinarskis through ACPI DSDT analysis rather than official Dell involvement, the driver addresses three key issues: fans spinning too late and too slowly causing thermal throttling, fans failing to stop after the SoC cools down, and keyboard/touchrow backlights not powering off during suspend. Combined with Dell's recently upstreamed firmware, the XPS 13 9345 is becoming one of the better-supported ARM laptops on Linux.
