Starting January 2020, all Gradle services will drop HTTP support and require HTTPS exclusively. This affects the Plugin Portal, Gradle distributions, and the Gradle Artifactory repository. Users with corporate artifact mirrors via Artifactory or Nexus are most at risk — CDN log analysis shows 16% of Nexus and 11% of Artifactory requests still use HTTP. Gradle 6.0 also deprecates HTTP in build scripts. The change is part of an industry-wide initiative following research revealing widespread HTTP dependency resolution across the JVM ecosystem, including 25% of Maven Central downloads.
