DaVinci Resolve 21's first beta introduces a dedicated Photo tab, positioning it as a potential Lightroom competitor. The new photo editing tools leverage Resolve's existing video color grading capabilities alongside photo-specific features for developing and tweaking RAW images. Key limitations in the free version include noise reduction and lens distortion correction being locked behind the paid Studio license. A critical export bug currently prevents saving edited photos, though workarounds exist. Despite beta roughness, the author sees this as a compelling reason to finally purchase a Resolve Studio lifetime license, especially compared to Adobe's ongoing subscription costs.
