claude-chill is a PTY proxy tool written in Rust that optimizes Claude Code's terminal output by intercepting massive atomic screen updates and rendering only the differences using VT100 emulation. It addresses performance issues caused by Claude Code sending thousands of lines in synchronized output blocks when only a few lines are visible. The tool preserves scrollback history, supports a lookback mode for reviewing full output, and includes auto-lookback after idle periods. Available for Linux and macOS via cargo install.
