Microsoft is rolling out a Copilot update for Windows Insiders that embeds web browsing directly into the AI assistant via a side panel, using Edge's WebView2 control instead of the user's default browser. The feature allows Copilot to access tab context and optionally sync passwords and form data. Microsoft did not respond to questions about whether this would be opt-in. Browser vendors like Vivaldi have criticized the move as potentially anti-competitive and disrespectful of user preferences, with comparisons drawn to the Windows Recall controversy. The update is currently in preview and subject to change.
