A hands-on project demonstrating how to control a 5101AS LED segment display using a SN74HC595 shift register IC on a Raspberry Pi. A JavaFX application manages bit/byte selection and calls a Python script to update the GPIO output, lighting up the correct LED segments. The wiring is done on a breadboard, and the full project source is available on GitHub. This is part of a book chapter on bits and bytes in Java on Raspberry Pi.
