Walter Pearce, Security Engineer at the Rust Foundation and leader of its Security Initiative, has been named to the inaugural cohort of the OpenSSF Ambassador Program alongside 12 other global community leaders. Walter brings 14+ years of security experience, including offensive security work at Epic Games and Blizzard Entertainment. His work at the Rust Foundation includes hardening the crates.io publishing pipeline, coordinating responses to phishing attacks targeting crate owners, adding security advisories to crates.io package pages, implementing Trusted Publishing to eliminate long-lived API tokens, and integrating GitHub Secret Scanning. The Security Initiative is funded in part by OpenSSF's Alpha-Omega Project.
