A hands-on comparison of a 12 VDC 280W air fryer versus a standard 240 VAC 1400W unit for off-grid use. Testing with chicken nuggets showed both can reach safe food temperatures in 20 minutes, but the low-voltage unit requires significantly more time for proper browning (45 min vs 20 min) and 150 Wh vs 250 Wh total energy. Running the 12V unit at 14.6V and 400W improved performance considerably. Overall, both are thermally equivalent but the low-voltage unit demands much more time to achieve the same result.
