(comic) Email vs. Meeting

The “this could be an email”, is more so we can do the right thing and ignore the email.

Most meetings should start as an email. Following that first email, people should have to respond to it with their thoughts and concerns for a while (couple of days at least), and only then can the relevant parties decide if the topic is not clear enough and needs further discussion, thus scheduling a meeting. And only schedule the meeting once a list of topics has been determined.
Some clear exceptions to this are matters that are truly time constrained, having the need to be solved ASAP, delicate topics, deeply collaborative work, among others. If all you’re going to talk about is some new methodology or new company policy, it can must certainly be solved with written asynchronous communication.
