Cognizant has agreed to acquire Astreya, a San Jose-based AI infrastructure and data centre managed services firm, for approximately $600 million. The deal is Cognizant's fourth major acquisition in 18 months under CEO Ravi Kumar S, who is reshaping the company around an 'AI builder strategy'. Astreya brings 2,200+ IT professionals across 33 countries, proprietary AI automation tooling, and deep expertise in data centre management and network operations. The acquisition fills a critical gap in Cognizant's stack: the ability to design, build, and run the physical infrastructure that enterprise AI systems require at scale. Previous acquisitions include Thirdera ($430M), Belcan ($1.3B), and 3Cloud. The deal reflects a broader industry shift among IT services giants — Accenture, Infosys, TCS, Wipro — racing to acquire specialised AI infrastructure capability before the window closes.
