Della Calder, who had been in speech therapy for a few years, struggled to find an app that resonated with her. Her brother, Archer, built an open source AAC app called FreeSpeech specifically tailored to her needs and preferences. The app allows users to communicate by pushing individual buttons for words and ideas, translating them to speech. Della's involvement in the development process has been crucial, inspiring the initial design and contributing to a more accessible and usable product. FreeSpeech has enabled Della to participate in the world where other proprietary AAC apps failed.
