The CNCF has announced the Certification Advancement & Recertification Experience (CARE) initiative at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe 2026. The program simplifies certification maintenance by allowing advanced certifications to automatically renew lower-level ones — for example, passing the CKA or CKAD will auto-renew the KCNA. Full implementation is set for June 2026, retroactive to January 1, 2026. The Kubestronaut community has surpassed 3,500 members, with 1,200 joining in the last six months. CNCF also plans to let individual open source projects create their own certification programs. The announcement touches on AI's impact on certifications, arguing that IT professionals will still need deep knowledge to supervise AI agents effectively.
