A CNCF report released at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe 2026 estimates the global cloud native developer community has grown to nearly 20 million, representing 39% of all developers worldwide. This marks a 28% increase from 15.6 million just six months ago. Among backend developers, 52% are now classified as cloud native. The growth is partly attributed to internal developer platforms (IDPs) that abstract away infrastructure complexity, making Kubernetes-based development more accessible. A companion SlashData survey of 12,021 developers found 40% work with containers and 27% have Kubernetes experience, while only 6–7% have adopted advanced practices like chaos engineering. Additionally, 7.3 million AI application developers are also leveraging cloud-native technologies.
