Cluely CEO Roy Lee admitted on X that the $7 million ARR figure he shared with TechCrunch in summer 2025 was fabricated. His post also misrepresented the circumstances, claiming he received a random cold call, when in fact Cluely's own PR team had proactively arranged the interview. The admission comes after Cluely's viral rise as an AI cheating tool, a $15M Series A from a16z, and a subsequent rebrand as an AI meeting note-taker. Ironically, Lee had previously advised founders to never share revenue numbers publicly.
