Cloudflare announced 'vinext', an experimental reimplementation of the Next.js API surface built on top of Vite, created in one week using $1,100 in AI tokens. The project aims to solve Next.js's well-known deployment friction on non-Vercel platforms by bypassing the Turbopack toolchain entirely. Vinext reimplements routing, SSR, RSC, server actions, middleware, caching, and both App and Pages Router, passing ~94% of 2,000+ Next.js tests. Cloudflare claims up to 4x faster builds and 57% smaller client bundles. It also ships with an agent-powered migration tool.
