Cloudflare has released EmDash 0.1, an open-source TypeScript rebuild of WordPress built on the Astro framework and designed to run on Cloudflare Workers. Developed over two months with significant AI agent assistance, EmDash is serverless, scales to zero, and is architected with AI-native features including a built-in MCP server and Agent Skills for converting WordPress themes and plugins. Security improvements include sandboxed plugins with defined permissions and passkey-based authentication. However, it currently lacks a plugin ecosystem, community, and full self-hosting support for sandboxed plugins. A WordPress migration tool exists but only imports content, meaning PHP-based themes and plugins must be rewritten. Yoast SEO creator Joost de Valk is an early supporter, noting its AI-agent-friendly architecture.
