Anthropic has brought Claude into Microsoft 365 in a more complete way than before. Claude for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is now generally available, and Claude for Outlook has entered public beta for all paid plans.
The most practically useful part of this is cross-app context. Claude maintains a single conversation thread as you move between the four apps, so you don’t have to re-explain what you’re working on every time you switch. An email thread you discussed in Outlook can inform a draft in Word, or feed into a spreadsheet in Excel, without you manually copying anything across. Changes made in one app can propagate to linked content in others — update a dataset in Excel and the connected PowerPoint chart updates too.
In Outlook specifically, Claude can triage your inbox, draft replies, and schedule calendar invites. You review everything before it sends.
Conversations persist per file, so you can pick up where you left off in a document or spreadsheet later.
For enterprise deployments, the integration supports routing through Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud Vertex AI, or Microsoft Foundry. There’s also OpenTelemetry support for audit logging and an Analytics API. Microsoft 365 Copilot customers can access Claude models directly within Excel and PowerPoint. The integrations are available through Microsoft AppSource.
The broader pattern here is worth noting. Claude connected to the apps you already use daily — calendar, email, documents — behaves quite differently from a standalone chatbot. The manual context-switching that makes AI tools feel limited mostly disappears when the AI can see what you’re actually working with.
