Cirrus Labs, the bootstrapped developer tooling company behind Tart (the most popular virtualization solution for Apple Silicon) and Cirrus CI, has announced it will join OpenAI as part of the Agent Infrastructure team. Founded in 2017, the company never raised outside capital and built tools for CI/CD and virtualization. As part of the transition, all source-available tools including Tart, Vetu, and Orchard will be relicensed under more permissive licenses with no licensing fees. Cirrus CI will shut down on June 1, 2026, and no new customers are being accepted for Cirrus Runners. The team plans to continue building tooling and environments, now focused on agentic engineering workflows at OpenAI.
