Linux Mint developers are building a new screenshot utility for the Cinnamon desktop to replace the existing gnome-screenshot tool. The new tool addresses shadow rendering issues with both CSD and SSD windows, automatically cleaning up semi-transparent corner pixels when shadows are disabled. It also adds multi-monitor screenshot support and a built-in cropping tool, while retaining existing features like pointer visibility toggle and countdown timer. The tool is expected to ship with the next major Cinnamon release, targeting Linux Mint's end-of-2026 release on Ubuntu 26.04 LTS.
