Gradle has released gradle/actions v6.1.0 in response to community concerns about licensing changes introduced in v6.0. Key updates include: a Safe Harbor clause added to the Terms of Use explicitly confirming Gradle claims no ownership of cached data; a new 'Basic Caching' provider that is 100% open-source (MIT-licensed) and wraps actions/cache, giving users an opt-out from the proprietary Enhanced Caching with a single config line. Enhanced Caching remains the default as it will power future features like Gradle Configuration Cache support. Both caching options are free for public repos; Basic Caching is free forever for private repos, while Enhanced Caching for private repos is in Free Preview with future limits targeting large commercial users only.
