Chinese DRAM maker CXMT is undercutting Samsung and SK hynix by offering DDR4 chips at roughly half the market rate, capitalizing on rising legacy DRAM prices that have climbed 10 consecutive months to their highest recorded levels. HP, Dell, Asus, and Acer are reportedly evaluating or partnering with Chinese suppliers. While Korean chipmakers focus on HBM4 leadership, over half their DRAM capacity remains in general-purpose products, creating vulnerability. CXMT is also converting 20% of its capacity to HBM3 production, with mass production expected next year. Meanwhile, YMTC has captured 10% of the global NAND market and is building a third fab that will include DRAM production, following a familiar playbook: gain scale in legacy, then move up the value chain.
