OpenAI announced it will begin testing targeted ads in ChatGPT for free and Go tier users in the U.S. Ads will appear at the bottom of conversations, targeted to discussion topics, while users can dismiss them or disable personalization. The company's more expensive tiers (Pro, Plus, Business, Enterprise) will remain ad-free. OpenAI promises that ads won't influence chatbot responses and user data won't be sold to advertisers, positioning this as a way to sustain free access while generating revenue.
