OpenAI has released ChatGPT Images 2.0, a new image generation model that significantly improves text rendering accuracy — a longstanding weakness of AI image generators. Unlike older diffusion models that struggled with spelling, Images 2.0 uses 'thinking capabilities' to search the web, generate multiple images from one prompt, and self-check outputs. It supports non-Latin scripts (Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Bengali), produces outputs up to 2K resolution, and can create multi-paneled comics and marketing assets in various sizes. The model is available to all ChatGPT and Codex users, with an API (gpt-image-2) also available. OpenAI declined to disclose the underlying model architecture.
