GitHub is rolling out two changes to how notifications and repository watches are handled. Web notification retention will be reduced from five months to three months, keeping inboxes focused on recent activity. Additionally, watches on repositories archived for more than six months will be automatically removed for non-collaborators, since archived repos are read-only and cannot generate notifications. Repository owners, collaborators, and team members retain their watches. Users can resubscribe with one click if a repository is later unarchived.
