Void Linux's linux-firmware package now compresses firmware with zstd to reduce installation size. Users must be running a supported kernel version before updating to linux-firmware-20260309_1 or later. A list of minimum supported kernel versions is provided (linux5.10, 5.15, 6.1, 6.6, 6.12, 6.18+, rpi-kernel, pinephone-kernel). Users unable to upgrade their kernel can hold the linux-firmware packages at their current version using xbps-pkgdb.
