Canonical expands Ubuntu support to next-generation MediaTek Genio 520 and 720 platforms

Canonical has announced early access Ubuntu 24.04 LTS images for MediaTek's new Genio 520 and 720 IoT platforms, expanding an existing partnership that already covers Genio 350, 510, 700, and 1200. The Genio 520 targets power-efficient IoT applications like smart home hubs and industrial gateways, while the Genio 720 focuses on advanced multimedia and on-device AI workloads including robotics and medical imaging. The release aims to accelerate time-to-market for edge AI deployments, offering enterprise-grade security, 15-year LTS support, and a path toward EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) compliance. Images are publicly available for download and flashing on MediaTek Genio development kits.
