I’m embarrassed to admit that I’ve always known that the endpoint controllers in our .net web api accepted cancellation token as an argument, but never took the time to figure out what they did. I had always found it funny that they were there because we didn’t seem to ever do anything with them. Am I correct in saying that even if you don’t explicitly catch an OperationCancelledException that any client calling the API can cancel the operation just by virtue of the fact that the endpoint is accepting a cancellation token? In other words, I don’t have to write any code in my endpoint to handle cancellation requests since an exception will be thrown if they are cancelled?
I feel like I’m probably missing something, because it doesn’t seem logical that the client on the other side of the http request would be able to tell my endpoint anything without sending another request. But otherwise, what would be the point of the endpoint accepting a cancellation token?
