Built an OSS  video-call and chat app with webrtc and socketio (just as a signaling server)</p>
<h2>Features and context</h2>

<p>You can create rooms with upto 3 people in each room</p>

<p>Right now since the app follows a mesh based architecture the limit is 3 per room (next todo is implement SFU)</p>

<p>Either keep the URL public or password protected. the password is enkrypted and stored in the URL itself!</p>

<p>Toggle audio and video streams anytime</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>No storage of personal information</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>No recording or interception of audio/video streams</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>No persistence of chat messages (they are directly emitted and consumed on devices that are supposed to receive them. the backend repo is OSS as well)</p>

<p>All communication is p2p</p>

<p>No server-side processing of media streams</p>

<p>i did spend a lot of time on the coturn config and IMO it should work on most ISP’s and should be able to traverse most NATS but if you do find something not working do LMK</p>

Open Source Front End

Developed an open-source video-call and chat application using WebRTC and Socket.IO for signaling. The app, created with Next.js, Shad CN, Tailwind, and Flask, supports rooms with up to 3 people due to its mesh architecture. The platform ensures privacy with features like password-protected rooms, no storage or interception of data, and direct peer-to-peer communication without server-side processing. Configuration of self-hosted coturn was emphasized for effective traversal across ISPs.
