Microsoft and Armada have announced a collaboration to deliver sovereign AI capabilities at the edge by combining Azure Local with Armada's Galleon modular datacenters (MDC). The solution targets defense, public safety, energy, and critical infrastructure operators who need cloud and AI workloads in disconnected, mobile, or operationally constrained environments. Azure Local provides the on-premises cloud platform, while Armada's Galleon MDC offers portable, rapidly deployable infrastructure. The joint reference architecture supports multi-rack scalability, flexible storage, resilient multi-network connectivity (satellite, LTE/5G, SD-WAN), and security hardening for regulated workloads. Foundry Local enables AI inference and analytics to run entirely within a customer's trusted boundary, even without public cloud connectivity, addressing data residency, latency, and sovereignty requirements.
