Google's Material Android team announces a major strategic shift: Material Views 1.14 is the final stable release for the legacy Views library, with all future efforts moving exclusively to Jetpack Compose. Material 3 in Compose is going stable with the upcoming 1.5 release in H2 2026. New expressive components include segmented lists, a refreshed search/app bar combo, updated menus with submenus and gaps, and a new scroll-based time picker. A new Styles API integration enables deeper, performance-friendly customization including gradient and state-based button styling. The Material Adaptive library is now integrated with Navigation 3, simplifying list-detail layouts across phones, foldables, and tablets with automatic single/dual-pane switching and predictive back support.
