gradio looks neat out of the box. but if you’re building something with its own identity, a custom theme makes it feel like yours. the new <a href="https://www.gradio.app/themes/gallery" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">theme gallery </a>could use more of that, so this is us asking nicely.
building one is surprisingly quick. or get your agent to do it and take inspiration from our current popular core themes, like <code>Citrus</code>.

themes recently got <code>custom_css</code> support, so you’re not just tweaking variables anymore. Hover animations, glass effects, background patterns… if CSS can do it, your theme can ship it:

everything bundles into the theme JSON with no extra files. Use <code>var(--primary-500)</code> so styles adapt when someone changes the base colours, and <code>:root.dark</code> for dark mode.

Gradio now supports custom themes with full CSS customization, including hover animations, glass effects, and dark mode styles. A new theme gallery is available for sharing community themes. Building a custom theme is straightforward by subclassing `Base` and optionally adding `custom_css`. Themes bundle into a single JSON file and can be pushed to the Gradio Hub.
