Btrfs file-system updates queued for Linux 7.1 include several performance improvements: ~10% throughput gain from faster clearing of first extents in tracked ranges, reduced CoW rewrites of extent buffers, avoiding the big device lock during transaction commits, fixing unnecessary flushes on close when truncating empty files, and preventing direct reclaim during compressed readahead. Additionally, the experimental shutdown ioctl introduced in Linux 6.19 is being promoted to stable, aligning Btrfs with XFS's shutdown mechanism. Error handling improvements and bug fixes are also included.
