JetBrains is introducing bring-your-own-key (BYOK) support for AI Assistant and Junie, allowing developers to connect their personal OpenAI, Anthropic, and other AI provider accounts directly in their IDE. This feature removes JetBrains-managed quotas, provides full cost transparency, and keeps API keys stored locally on users' machines. Support will expand to Google Gemini, Azure, AWS Bedrock, and self-hosted models, with plans to support industry standards like OpenAI API, ACP, and A2A Protocol. The feature is expected by year-end and won't require a JetBrains AI subscription.
