MIT.nano's Immersion Lab is being used by Emerson College filmmaking students to learn virtual production through hands-on motion capture. Equipped with a 28-camera OptiTrack system, the lab lets students create animated characters in real time, producing short films that rival professional-level work. The collaboration, led by MIT Media Lab alumnus Daniel Pillis, has engaged over 60 students in two years, with one receiving an EVVY Award nomination. Future plans include facial animation, hand tracking, and interactive generative motion capture.
