Sandia National Laboratories researchers demonstrated that neuromorphic computing hardware can solve complex mathematical problems using the finite element method, challenging the assumption that brain-inspired computers are only good for approximate, pattern-recognition tasks. Using Intel's Loihi 2 chip with over 1 billion digital neurons, they successfully solved partial differential equations commonly used in fluid dynamics, mechanics, and electromagnetics.
