A study analyzing restaurants on Chinese review platform Dianping found that businesses using automated review monitoring systems (ARMS) saw their average weekly ratings rise by 0.358 stars after adoption. ARMS software monitors customer feedback platforms, uses AI to digest reviews, and creates structured action items for staff. Notably, it also reduces impulsive public responses to negative reviews by routing feedback through internal workflows first. The effect was strongest for lower-rated restaurants and in areas where they previously underperformed. However, businesses with defensive staff cultures saw smaller improvements, and the most combative business owners are unlikely to change regardless of tooling.
