Ublk is a framework that allows developers to write Linux block device drivers in user space rather than kernel space. Using the io_uring facility in recent kernels, it enables driver development in any programming language with standard libraries, simplified debugging, and safer crash handling. The ublk_drv kernel driver handles block device management and relays I/O requests to user-space code. While not as performant as native kernel drivers, it's useful for rapid prototyping of custom block devices like exotic RAID schemes or virtual devices backed by multiple files.
